Fred serves on the Board of Directors of AWCI and has served the past 3 years as President of that organization, which has been an honor. He joined American Watchmakers and Clockmakers Institute (AWIC) and the Horological Association of Virginia, working Convention Chairman, Vice President, and President and was honored with Watchmaker of the Year. Watchmakers with CW21certification have proven to. It was the recession of 1981 that brought Fred back to watchmaking. The following are AWCIs current certified designations: CW21 - Certified Watchmaker for the 21st Century. As the economy in that small town began to dry up, Fred and family moved to the Washington, DC area where he took a job in the automobile business.

With the declining need for watchmakers due to the growing popularity of quartz watches, Fred took a detour from watchmaking to sell insurance – which was a good move that gave him a great education on how to sell, a skill which has served him well over his lifetime. Over the ensuing years, Fred became a certified master watchmaker, married, and moved to a small town where he managed a shop that took care of the C&O Railroad’s timepieces for that area. 1974: Completed Certified Accutron Watchmaker CAT Training in Crystal. His years working as an apprentice exposed Fred to a wide range of watches which gave him a broad foundation in Horology. 1972: Joined AWI, American Watchmakers Institute (currently AWCI) and remain.
